Articulo - Puebla de la Calzada

En la comarca de Tierra de Merida - Vegas bajas nos encontramos con este pueblo de 6000 habitantes lleno de historia.
Aunque no fue convertido en villa hasta 1581 al ser adquirido por la condesa de Montijo, bien es cierto que ya era conocido siglos atras por ser un asentamiento bastante poblado a orillas del rio Guadiana.
Aparte de esto tambien es famoso este pueblo por ser destruido en el año 1644 durante la guerra de sucesion española, cuando los Portugueses incendiaron el pueblo por completo.
